Prompt: As we approach the end of the course, reflect on the texts, discussions, and concepts explored in Multicultural Literature. What is one significant lesson about culture or identity that has stood out to you? Explain why this lesson is meaningful and analyze how it connects to your own experiences or perspective.

A significant lesson that stood out to me regarding culture, is understanding others food habits. I think food is a form of comfort especially if its a cultural food you grew up on. Feeling that sense of safety when eating your favorite meal shouldn't be judged. I think its important to understand other peoples culture includes “different” habits. No one should be judged for how they live. I personally love food, especially a cultural food i grew up on like yuca fries. If someone were to judge me because its “different” wouldn't be ideal.

Prompt: How important is education in your life right now? Do you think students around the world value school the same way you do? Explain your reasoning.

Education in my life right now is very important. After highschool i plan on going straight to college to extend my education. I do think there are alot of students that value school the way i do. Especially since decision day, ive seen alot of students pursuing college. I think this is because now people truly see what it is to see others struggle , and to prevent that from being them , these same people are attempting to shape a healthy future.

Prompt: After viewing your classmates’ presentations, which cultural group did you find most interesting? Explain why. Then, reflect on how this presentation changed or deepened your understanding of that culture.

I came in late the first day due to cross keys so i didn't get a good look of the other groups. What i will say is , knowing other cultures and their pros as well as cons is important. Its also important to know what stereotypes are truly accurate and what stereotypes are hurtful. Being sure to not implicitly judge anyone because of these negative stereotypes is crucial in being respectful to others.

Prompt: Which factor plays a greater role in shaping your future career choice: your genuine interest and passion for the field, or the financial benefits and stability it can provide? In your response, explain which one you prioritize and why, and consider how this decision might impact your long-term happiness, motivation, and overall quality of life.

In my opinion my genuine interest and passion for the field plays a greater role im shaping my future career choice. I would never want to work a career im not happy with. Not for the money, the location , or nothing. Though my interest may come with some obstacles, theres always a chance to find you way. Your overall quality of life wont involve having to stress not being happy in your occupation.

Prompt: What is the most exciting thing about graduating high school for you personally? In your response, explain what you are looking forward to most after graduation (college, career, independence, travel, etc.) and why it matters to you.

The most exciting thing about graduating highschool is college. I believe i am more than ready for college and cant wait to meet new people and network. It matters to me because I know a lot of people aren't ready and its a blessing that I'm okay and I'm ready.

Prompt: Clothing is often tied to identity and culture. Describe an outfit or style you like that may not fit what others expect from you. How have people responded, and what does this reveal about stereotypes in society?

I like baggy pants and tops. This can be looked at as "weird" because "girls are meant to wear tight and fitted clothing." Alot of people assumed I was masc female because of what I chose to wear. Despite my long slick hair, nails, lashes , and even the way I speak. This shows that I doesnt matter how much you may 'look to part', if you have one thing that's different ,all of that will be thrown out of the window.

Prompt: Think about a film that represents your culture (or a culture you identify with) in a positive and meaningful way. Explain how the film represents the culture and why this portrayal matters. Be sure to include specific examples from the film.

The film The Hate U Give, represents my culture. Though there were negative parts about my culture , there were also meaningful parts that better represent my culture. Acts like protesting for whats right , getting good grades as a black girl, being more than comfortable in your skin were all represented in this movie. Watching these acts definitely impacted me and made me feel proud to be who I am as a young black girl in America.

prompt: The short film Born With It shows how stereotypes can shape the way people see others and even how individuals see themselves. Reflect on the main character’s experience and explain how stereotypes impacted his identity and sense of belonging. Then, connect this to a broader idea: how can stereotypes influence the way a culture or group is understood by others? Use specific examples from the film to support your response.

Stereotypes can negatively and inaccurately display a group as people they aren't. In the film the students assumed the boy was sick and had AIDS because of his skin color. This is hurtful and caused the boy to not only not be insecure about not only his skin but his whole existence. This can cause people to feel unwanted for no real reason.

Prompt: Cities can also be an important part of a person’s cultural identity, shaping their values, experiences, and way of life. Think of a movie or TV show that changed the way you see a specific city. How was that city and its culture portrayed, and did it present a full picture or a “single story”? Explain how this portrayal could influence how people view those who live there.

The tv show “Insecure” is based in Los Angeles. The characters in this show went through many different phases but within these phases they went to many different parts of the city. This helped me better understand the various places the city holds and how there is a place for everyone there depending on the part. Due to its diverse parts , it didnt represent a single story but did represent its many different areas of comfort. This could convince someone who feels out of place in their own city to explore LA and find there place of fitting.

Prompt: Why do you think filmmakers continue to use stereotypes, even when they can be harmful or inaccurate? Explain one reason discussed in class and give your opinion on whether this justifies their use.

I think filmmakers continue to stereotype because they know thats what the audience expects. At the end of the day filmmakers want there film to succeed and if that means potentially being hurtful towards a group of people theyll risk it. I wouldnt say its justified but at the end of the day i do think you have to do what you have to do especially when money is involved.

Prompt: Think about the most stereotypical film you have ever seen. This could be a movie that represents a specific culture, race, gender, or group in an oversimplified or unrealistic way. In your response, explain what film you are referring to, what stereotypes were present in the film, and how those stereotypes shaped your understanding of that group at the time

The film ill be referencing is The Hate U Give. I chose this film because its excellently highlights the struggles of black people in the society and had typical black stereotypes presented. Stereotypes like black people always having a gun and always being affiliated in gang activity was greatly used. The police officer “mistakes” a hair brush for a gun and shot and killed the black boy in the film. This showed me how deep and ignorant stereotypes are and how hard you truly have to work to be taken out of that bucket of “ghettoness”.

Prompt: Hair can be a powerful way people express who they are and where they come from. Think about your own hair, your style, texture, or how you choose to wear it. How does your hair connect to your culture or your identity? Describe a moment when your hair made you feel proud, uncomfortable, or misunderstood, and explain why.

My current hair is a wig which originates from Africa/Ancient Egyptians. They wore it to protect their shaved heads but more importantly for fashion. I wear them for fashion and I love the way I love in them. When I do my own wigs and they come out good, I feel proud and relieved. Its a long process installing a wig, so when I take the time and succeed, its always exciting. Though I wear wigs , I do still wear my natural hair out when I want breaks, and I love too.
